No-Prize Contest
Ok if you pay any attention to what I have on the right of this page then you may have noticed that I asked a survey question on who do you think should be or have been the star of his own team-up book. The plan was that I would learn how to photoshop by now and I would create a cover and story for said book. That didn't happen. I am still as bad at photoshop now as when I thought this up. So for those of you who are good at it and like to do it I will give a no-prize, hey it's after Christmas so no money, to the winner. Just e-mail the entries to me and I will provide a link to any family friendly site. There is only 2 hours left at this time in the survey but what ever character wins is who you will have to use and team them up with any character from their own company roster. I don't like to wait long so the end date is Jan.5th.
Brave and the Bold Reminder

Just a reminder that Brave and the Bold has a new episode on Cartoon Network this Friday. One of the guest voices is from David McCallum from NCIS and the Man From U.N.C.L.E. as Merlin. He transports Batman and Green Arrow back in time to stop the evil Morgan Le Fey.
In the teaser Batman also teams up with Guy Gardner. Together they stop a criminal riot.

Fred MacMurray as Captain Marvel

As many fans of the Golden Age Captain Marvel know the Captain was originally designed to look like film star Fred MacMurray. I have always wondered how it would have looked if he had played the part in a movie. So I took a promo photo from his TV show My Three Sons. I cropped out Uncle Charlie and colored the rest as best as I could to look like he was wearing the Captain Marvel costume. Eat your heart out Jackson Bostwick. Fred MacMurray is the real Captain Marvel.

Team-Up Stars Christmas Greetings

Here are Christmas greetings from the stars of the Team-up books. The one from Superman really was in a DC comic book in the golden age. Sorry for the fuzzy look on Batman's but I could not resist showing him caroling with the Gotham City Police.
Merry Christmas and remember Jesus is the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas
For those of you who like puzzles then here is a Christmas gift to you. A word search that includes the titles of the various team- up books and the heroes with some of their guest stars. I had to leave out the dashes and make all of them one words to make them all fit. Hope that is ok. So print this out and have fun. Merry Christmas!

Comic Coverage Fire and Ice

Over at Comic Coverage he has a very good post on Fire and Ice. It start with talking about the animated Christmas tradition Heat Miser and Snow Miser cartoon. Then skillfully we are guided into the highlights of Marvel Team-Up #23 where the Human Torch and Ice Man face off. This may be hard to believe but I have never read that issue. I don't recall even seeing it for sale in my area when it first came out. One day I hope to buy it and read it. Till now I will just have to enjoy these highlights.

Brave and the Bold: Invasion of the Secret Santas

The Brave and the Bold spotlight shined on Red Tornado this week in their first Christmas episode for the series. In this one Red Tornado is a college Professor by day and superhero robot by night. The story actually starts with Batman helping the new Blue Beetle wrap up a case. BB then ask Bats to Christmas dinner. Batman declines saying crime doesn't take a holiday so neither does he.
The scene switches to a small town where RT is teaching. He saves the day from two children being hit by a car. The Father thanks him and then they tell him of the Christmas spirit. Red Tornado has never experienced it and studies books written about it. He tries everything. He decorates his home. Wears a Christmas sweater. He even goes on his own to sing Christmas Caroles to his neighbors. Still he doesn't get that tingling feeling that the children says he should experience.
Suddenly he hears that flying saucers are attacking the city and Batman is the only hero there to stop them. R.T. goes and helps but finds they are really toys made by the villain Fun Haus. After this and another diversion they find that Fun Haus has really made the one toy that every kid wants for Christmas. He has programed them to rob the homes and bring everything back to him.
Batman and Red Tornado figure this out in time and stop him. He has all the toys combine to make a gigantic robot that Fun Haus commands. It takes everything that Red Tornado has to destroy the robot. Suddenly R.T. gets that tingle feeling and believes it is the Christmas spirit. Then his system overloads and he explodes. As they take his remains away Batman tells him they will do all they can to put him together again. R.T. says it was all worth it.
Inter spaced in certain areas of this story we see what Batman is thinking about his last Christmas with his parents. Young Bruce Wayne opens up a present that he believes is the swashbuckling action figure that he asked for. To his dismay it is an antique nutcracker. His Dad tells him it was his Grandfathers who handed it down to him and now he is giving it to his son. Spoiled rich brat that this young Bruce Wayne is at the time throws it away as it isn't what he wanted. Alfred the Butler picks up the toy.
Later Mom and Dad take him on the day after Christmas to see the new swashbuckling Zorro film to make up for not getting him the toy he asked for. Bruce tells them that it doesn't make up for it. You know what happens next. They walk through the alley to go home. We hear two gunshots and young Bruce cry for him Mom and Dad.
As Paul Harvey would say "now you know the rest of the story." Batman not only fights crime because of this but is trying to make up for being a brat on his last Christmas with his Mom and Dad. He will never get to tell them he is sorry. So he doesn't celebrate Christmas in the traditional way. He fights the crooks that would try to steal Christmas from the citizens of Gotham City.
As Batman gets in the Batmobile he sees a Christmas present on the passenger seat. He opens it to find the antique nutcracker that was once his Fathers. Batman says to himself "Merry Christmas to you too Alfred." Then he takes off because crime doesn't take a holiday.
I love this series and can't wait to see him team-up with Green Arrow.

My Pop Shop
I just opened a little store on line that I call My Pop Shop. You can get t-shirts, mugs etc. there. At present there are only two designs. If you are a Monkees fan you might like this design.

If you like to play golf then you may like the this design.

So take a look around the store to see if there is anything you want. I plan to add more in the future.

Brave and the Bold's Aquaman

I recently watched the animated Brave and the Bold and I really enjoyed it. But I had a problem with the characterization of Aquaman. They made it seem like he was conceited. He went around touting his own horn and flexing his muscles for the citizens to see. I loved how they did have him keep giving his brother Ocean Master chances to redeem himself since he is family. That much seemed like the Aquaman I know. But his conceit was so much that he was insufferable. I don't see how Batman could stand being around him. A team-up is suppose to make the guest star shine. While in many ways this did happen but it also shined a light on one of Aquaman's faults and that shouldn't have happened just to have more character development. Normally I would think they can fix this in their next team-up but since they used both Black Manta and Ocean Master I don't think that will happen soon.

WKRP Blog

Ok call me crazy but I have been wanting to do a blog site about WKRP for awhile now. It really isn't ready for the public but when I heard a local station in Cincinnati changed their call letters to WKRP I had to put it up right away. Here is where you can go to WKRP in Cincinnati: Living On The Air. You can read about the TV station there and find a link to their site.
