Star Crossed Love

With Valentine's Day just past I was thinking of couples in the comic books. Most that posted this past weekend were about couples where both had superpowers. I have had on my mind couples where only one had a superpower. Here are my picks.

First is the Flash, Barry and Iris Allen. For years Barry dated Iris who was a reporter who covered the crime busting antics of the Flash for Picture News in Central City. Barry was always arriving late for their dates as he was too busy taking care of solving a crime. He was the fastest man in the world and to his friends he was known as a slowpoke and always late. Even when they were married she still didn't know he was the Flash. She later found out his other life when she heard him talking in his sleep.

Next is Spider-man and Mary Jane. For a long time their Aunts tired to bring these two crazy kids together. They lived next door to each other for years but despite this they dated others. Peter had a crush on Betty Brant at the Daily Bugle and later dated Gwen Stacey. It looked like she was the one who would become Mrs. Spider-man. The Green Goblin put an end to that. MJ comforted him when she died. Later when he fell in love with her he revealed to her that he was Spider-Man so he could ask her to marry him. It was then that she told him she knew for years. It turned out that she use to see him climb in and out of his bedroom window as Spider-man when she lived with her Aunt. His spidersense never went off as she was a friend and not a danger to him so he never knew she saw him. Later they married but now none of this means anything as the current story line says that it never happened.

Captain America and Sharon Carter have a checkered romantic past. Depending on which story line you follow Sharon is either the kid sister or the niece of Cap's WWII love Peggy Carter.

Sharon is a SHIELD agent and worked on many cases with Cap. Over time they fell in love. Sometimes Cap was placed in the role of wating for Sharon to come back from a dangerous mission. He tried to get her to quit but to no avail.
After not returning back from a secret mission it was believed she was dead. Years later it was revealed that she was captured. Once she got free she came across a group that planned to use the cosmic cube to return Hitler to life. It took her, Captain America and even the Red Skull to stop them.
Sharon was still working with SHIELD when the Superhuman Registration Act was put into effect. She was a supporter but had her doubts since Cap was against it. When Goliath was killed she switched sides. On his way to Federal Court a sniper shoots Cap in the shoulder. However, someone else deals the killing shot to him in the stomach. That person was a hypnotized Sharon Carter following through a command that Dr. Faustus placed in her head. Later it appeared that Cap died of his wounds.

The king of superhero/non-superhero relationships are Superman and Lois Lane. For years they were only co-workers who ocassionaly dated. Then, after all that time of keeping his identity secrect and the crazy schemes it took to get her off the trail of who he was, Clark told her the truth. It was about time. He propsed and she accepted. The wedding was done in time to coinside with the nuptials of their television version on the show "Lois and Clark." Out of all of those mentioned this is the one relationship that is still going on to this day.
