Spire Christian Comics

Photobucket
Over at For God So Loved I will be posting from time to time stories in the Spire Christian Comics Series. Today is a story from Archie's One way. All stories are by the late, great cartoonist Al Hartly.

The Real Person Behind Battle For The Cowl

Over at Doctor K's we find that the true brains for the Battle for the Cowl storyline may be Bob Haney.

Li'l Jinx

Here is an old Archie one page of Li'l Jinx. I never was a big fan but since she has been gone I have missed the little tyke. I am showing this one as it has a rare appearance of her Mom. When I read her stories it was always just her and her Dad. I thought he was a single parent.

Chuck Dixon and Comic Book World

On August 8th if you are in Florence, Ky. or Louisville, Ky. then stop by Comic Book World. Chuck Dixon will be appearing at both stores that day. I'll have to see what books I have that he wrote to get signed.

Brave and the Bold Volume 2

Well Volume 1 comes out on DVD on August 25th. I thought they were only releasing it that way to get as publicity when they release the full season on DVD. So far that doesn't seem to be what will happen. Today I heard that Volume 2 will come out on November 10th. It will make a nice Christmas gift. There are only going to be 4 episodes on it. The only other items will be a trailer for the straight to DVD movie "Superman/Batman:Public Enemies." That movie will be released on Sept. 29th.
The cost for Volume 2 is $14.98

Bob Hope Sells Popsicles

I have had this ad saved for awhile now. Other then it having Bob Hope I can't quite recall why I saved it. I believe I saw it in a Marvel comic and Bob had a long running humor book for Marvel's main competition DC Comics.

In House ad for Nickel Comics

Here is a 1940 ad for Nickel Comics #2. I recently saw it in Nickel Comics #1 which featured the first appearance of Bulletman. The reason I am posting this is if you look below at the bottom where it tells you all the legal stuff about the publisher you can see Louisville, Ky. It is a bit fuzzy to read but it shows that while the editorial offices are in New York it says that Fawcetts publishing offices are in Louisville, Ky. I just got a kick out of seeing that my home state has a link to comic books golden age. In a round about way that gives it a link to DC Comics since they own the rights to Bulletman.

In House DC Ad from 1968

When I saw this ad I wondered why Flash was never the star of his own team-up book. He got along with everyone so he would have been a natural.

The Thor Song

Well last week I posted as song about Spider-Man and one about Captain America on July 5th on Let's Rap With Cap! Both were produced by the same company and that same year, 1966 one of my favorite years, they produced a record about Thor. I would like to know who did the art for the records. They all look like hunchbacks and Cap looks tired. At least it was distinctive. Here is the song about Thor. In someway I like it more then the one from his cartoon series from that same decade.

Thom McAn Ad

Here is a 1946 ad for Thom McAn. I have seen ads like this for candy companies and breakfast cereals. This is the first time I saw that a shoe company like Thom McAn had there own superhero selling their shoes in the Golden Age.

Peter Pan Records Ad

Here is a 1970's ad for Peter Pan redords. For those too young to remember this was a way for fans to hear the story while they read. Much like radio plays of the 1930's and 1940's and audio books today. The records came with a comic book Sometimes the story was original but usually it was a reprint. It was fun to feel like you were part of the adventure.

Fireworks Ads

I couldn't pass these up on a day like today. I saw them in an old 1948 Plastic Man comic.
