Top 4 stories I read in 2009

I have been reading comic books most of my life and every year it has been tough to decide what are the best stories I have read that year. But each year it got closer and closer to being easy to pick. This year there were four stories that demanded my attention. So for me here are the top four stories of 2009.
#4 is Civil War: A Marvel Comics Event

Now I know most if not all of you read this probably last year. However, I waited for the hardcover and ask for it as Christmas gift. I can't say much as I only just got it and am part of the way through. But so far I am really enjoying it. This is one of the truly major events that from what I have heard and read really lived up to they hype. I think that Marvel learned that less is more as the next one up is the Seige and until last week I had not heard a beep about it. But that just may be me.

#3 is the return of Captain America.
I have always been a fan of Cap but not as big a fan as I was of other heroes. Still Cap touches my heart and brings back fond memories of my life. I was hurt to hear that Cap was dead but we knew no matter how much Marvel and the writers of his comic book said he wasn't coming back that was really not true. He is the hero of an action/adventure science fiction comic book. He would be back. This book was an event but surely took their time in getting to the meat of the story. That is that the Red Skull takes over Cap and he has to battle Bucky and Steve for who has the right to be Captian America. We all know who that is and it isn't the Red Skull.

#2 is Flash:Rebirth.

As much as Cap touched my heart the Flash did so even more. I really related to Barry Allen. For some reason I have always been told that I moved slow when I was younger. So I was always last. When I was young I had blond hair till I was about 10. I loved his birght red costume. When I was in college Flash and Spider-man where the two heroes I kept up with during my busy work and college studies. To me Barry Allen is an old college buddy. So I took it hard when Barry was killed and no longer the Flash. I liked Wally as the Flash but he was no Barry Allen. Now to hear that he was back really put a smile on my face. This was one series that I had to make sure I had the money to buy. It was, and since there is still an issue to come out,so much fun for me to read it ranked #2. Now if I feel this way about #2 what could be #1? Scroll down and see.

#1 is Archie #600

How did this little 6 issue romantic comdey bet out the rock'em sock'em bring them back from the dead super heroes? It's simple. If Barry Allen is my old college buddy then Archie and the gang are my childhood friends who I have kept in touch with. If you had a life long friend getting married you would make sure you went if invited. The whole world was invited to see who Archie picked and to our surpries it was Veronica in #600. Most thought it would be Betty and three issues later it was. This was the best series of the year to me. It was hitting on all cylinders. Well maybe it did miss on one. I would have started this six issue series on #597. that way we could have built up tothe real wedding on issue #600. The the next 2 issues wouild have brought it back to Archie universe reality.

Mr. Fantastic Statue

This is the week I have been waiting all year for. Comic Book World is having their annual end of the year sale. I was hoping they would have a statue of Plastic Man or Captain America on sale but no such luck. In place of Plas I got Marvel's version when I bought the one that you see above of Mr. Fantastic. It is a 2005 version of his first appearance on FF#1. Now I know this retailed for around $85 when it first came out. I saw it for a long time at the store and the price kept going down. In recent months it got down to $30 and this week with the sale I got it for a little over $25 yesterday. This is the first statue that I ever bought. Mainly cause it is the first I could afford. I had hoped Plastic Man or Cap would be my first but I can live with Reed Richards. I saw it selling on e-bay for $60 so I think I got a great deal. Buying this statue made me think and I may have another posting on this again soon.

Brave and the Bold: The Long Arm of the Law

Well I finally got to watch Batman:the Brave and the Bold episode title the Long Arm of the Law. It was over a week ago that it aired and with it Plastic man fans were given an early Christmas gift. At first I was disappointed. You see when I saw Plas in the teaser where he and Batman rescued a Boy Scout troop I thought that meant that he wouldn't be in the main story. Thankfully that disappointment was short lived when I saw him and Woozy in the first scene of the main story.

Plas swears in Woozy as his official sidekick. He shows him how he is trying to be like Batman and has his own Plastic Cave (his garage) and I laughed when he showed him his arsnel and got to the Plastic bag.

This episode also introduced Plastic Man's wife and baby. Who we were first shown years ago in the Plastic man Comedy/Adventure show. Plas and Woozy want to go out on patrol but his wife wants the baby to get some culture and tells them to take him to the museum and walk the dog. When they arrive the museum is about to be robbed by Rubberneck. Woozy sees him first and tells Plas. He tells Woozy to keep an eye on baby Plas and the dog. Of course he doesn't do a very good job of that. Meanwhile Plas assumes different shapes to keep an eye on Rubberneck. He tries to arrest him but it takes the help of Batman who happens to be going by. During their battle part of Plastic Man's body is stolen by the real mastermind behind the robbery attempt.

Back home it is Woozy, not Plastic man or Batman (I guess the citizens of Gotham are a bit jaded with so many superheroes in their city.) , who makes the news on how badly he looked after the baby and the dog. His wife is furious and storms out.

Batman comes to the door and gives Plas and Woozy an excuse to leave. Batman tells him that some one stole part of his body was stolen. They figure out that the person who is after him is Kite Man. As was told over a year ago he is the former boss of Eel O'Brien. He is out to get him for turning states evidence that got Kite Man put in Jail. We also find out Kite Man;s origin. He tried to recreate Ben Franklin's kite flying when he was a boy. The kid must have been a bit insane to begin with as he did it with a mouth full of braces and standing in a pail of water. After being hit by lightening he becaome obsessed with kite related crimes.
They try to warn Plastic Man's family they may be in danger but are too late. He has kidnapped all of them. They trail in to the Ben Franklin Museum. This is where the final battle takes place. It is also where Rubberneck proves to really be a little smarter then Kite Man. Kite Man ask what did Ben Franklin ever give to us and all of them have an answer. Rubberneck answered with Daylight savings time.
Kite Man has Plas' family tied to a giant kite. He lets it go but Plas and Batman save the day and Kite Man is taken back to prison.
I loved this episode and am sorry that it took me so long to get around to watching it. I was happy that Jim Krieg was able to bring together all of the various histories of Plastic Man. His comic book past with Woozy. His TV past with having a wife and kid and his past as this show had with him and Kite Man. I love it when some one can bring them all together in a well written and acted story. Jim Krieg did all of that in this tale. Recently Mr. Krieg left a comment on one of my sites, I am posting this review on 2 of my sites, saying that he was going to keep reading my site each day till he read a review of this episode. Well Mr. Krieg this is it but please keep coming back. Don't let this be the last thing you read on any of my sites. If Plas gets spun off into his own series, as he should from how well he is doing as a guest on Brave and the Bold, I hope you are the writer for the show.

Header Contest

I know this is short notice and can't afford to give much of a prize but I am holding a christmas header contest for most of my sites. They are Plastic Man Platitudes, On My Mind, Millie the Model, and Mail it to Team-Up. The rules are that you must include the characters and any phrases that are already on the current headers. You can ad more characters if you so wish. For example on Millie the model you can add Clicker and Chili etc. as long as Millie is there too. The header must also look like Christmas.
The specifics are that the size should be 706 pixels wide and 215 pixels high. AllI can say right now is that I will give you the coveted No-Prize as I pick up where Stan "the Man" Lee left off. Also if you have a site I will give a link to it. Any entries will be post on the sites but the deadline is short so I will understand if there is little or no involvememt. It must be entered by 12/11/09. That way they can be up for a while to all enjoy. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
Oh also you don't have to enter for each site. However I am hoping to get some for On My Mind and Millie the Model. E-mail me any entries that you have.
