Ever want to have a ring like the one the Flash has? Well you can design your own and get it if you are the winnner of a contest at Speed Force. Just go to Speed Force and you better hurry cause it ends April 26 and that will be here faster then you know. The ringmay not pop open and release a compressed supersuit but it will still be nice to have if you are the winner.

In memory of Dick Giordano

You have probably read countless obits on Dick Giordano by now. This one won't add anything new to them but I felt compelled to write it. I never met Dick Giordano and as I was never going to conventions when he was a guest so I never even saw him in person. I did hear his voice once. In the mid 1970's, those days before news was spread before the internet exizted, DC comics ran an 800 # that if the fans dialed it they would be told by one of the writers, artists or editors what was going on in the DC offices at that time. The one and only time I called it was Dick Gordano who had recorded the very friendly message. I don't recall what he said but from that call I learned what he sounded like and how to pronounce his name. Now some people don't believe this story as Mr. Giordano was to have left C for awhile befre this hotline came about. Well he must have come back for awhile as I did hear him on the phone.

My first exposure to Mr. Giordano's work was with Charlton Comics. I couldn't read at the time but I loved to look at Captain Atom, Blue Beetle and Sarge Steel,or as i called him at that time, that man with the steel hand. Eventually he went to DC and much of Charlton's talent followed him. When he was put in charge at DC in the early 80's their books really took off. DC ruled the 60's but slowly Marvel took over that decade before it was over. Marvel ruled the 70's and DC in someways seemed to try to copy Marvel. But Mr. Giordano had the talent not only to draw but t handle people. That is an important part of being an editor as the best talent seems to always go toward that type of leader. I didn't know him so there isn't much more I can write but he left his stamp on comics in a big way. I read that he learned to draw when he was a child who was verfy sick and he loved to read the comics. From that smiple beginning over the years he touched many lives through comics. Rest in peace Dick Giordano.

Rest in Peace Robert Culp

No matter if you remember him from Trackdown, I Spy, The Greatest American Hero or his number of TV guest spots on shows ranging from The Outer Limits to Everbody Loves Raymond, Robert Culp has been a fixture on everyones TV for over 50 years. He recently passed away at the age of 79 when he had a accident at his home. It is hard to imagine TV without Robert Culp. Of all of his roles perhaps his most iconic is that of FBI agent Bill Maxwell from The Greatest American Hero. At the time he was doing that show there were rumors that he would play another iconic role in Dallas. He would take over the part of J.R. Ewing as contract negotiations with Larry Hagman were stalled. Culp said there was no truth to the rumors and if it was offered to him he would have turned it down cause he wouldn't leave the part of Bill Maxwell. If another story I heard is true Robert Culp left his mark in another way. I Spy co-starred Bill Cosby. Everyone knows that Cosby's part broke TV's color barrier. What you may not know is that it almost didn't happen. At least not with Cosby. After seeing Cosby's acting the producer, Sheldon Leonard told Culp Cosby had to go cause he couldn't act. Culp told Leonard to wait and he would try to teach him how to act. It worked and he kept the part on the show. Since then Cosby has become another actor who it would be hard to think of TV without. Culp did guest spots on the Cosby show and joined Cosby for an I Spy reunion movie and in 1972 he directed himself and Cosby as two private eyes in the movie Higgy and Boggs. It isn't hard to believe when i heard the news today state that Bill Cosby said Robert Culp was like a brother to him.
Here is an ash can version of a comic book based on the show The Greatest American Hero.
