Strange Laws

I saw this in an old issue of Batman. I always thought an interesting book would be to tell the history of these types of laws and why they were important to put on the books at the time.

Green Arrow #1

Ok I just finished reading this book and I LOVED IT. I have always liked GA but usually only as a member of the JLA or when he teamed with Green Lantern. Yes GL does appear in this book near the end and will be in next issue but I don't think he will be a regular. They are treating him like a modern day Robin Hood and he lives in the wooded park area of Star City. Kind of like his Sherwood Forest. Never have I been tempted to keep reading a Green Arrow series because of the story. Usually it was for the art by the likes of Mike Grell and Trevor Von Eden that kept me interested. Well I did like the mini-series where he battled Count Vertigo. Usually a Green Arrow series I would pass on or look at the first issue and stop. This one may keep me for awhile.

Superman #158

Over at The Brave and the Bold: the Lost Issues they had a cover where Batman teamed with the bottled city of Kandor's Nightwing and Flamebird. Of course this team up never happened but I sought out Superman #158. That was the first appearance of that team. Here it is for your reading enjoyment.

Nova #4

When Marv Wolfman brought his creation of Nova to Marvel Comics he quickly became a favorite of mine. Sometimes Marvel would show that they knew they had a hit and had faith in the creation by showcasing a major Marvel hero or villain by the 4th or 5th issue. Remember when Spider-man met Dr. Doom in issue #5 of Amazing Spider-man? Well with #4 of Nova they showed their faith by teaming him up with Thor. Some people said that Thor was Marvel's version of Superman at that time. I didn't agree with them but when I read this story I could understand what they meant. Read it yourself and think of Superman in place of Thor. I can see it and could believe that in the last panel Superman would probably have added "Keep going the way you are and one day I wouild be proud to sponsor you as member of the Justice League." At that time I was hoping Nova would join the Avengers. Now I have to hope and dream they will bring Nova a series that is as good as his first series.

Green Hornet Trailer

I have been on a Green Hornet kick lately and by coincidence the trailer for the new movie was released on line this week.

So what did you think? In a way it looks good to me and I am glad that they beefed up Kato's role more. Still it looks like Kato is really in charge of the team and it should really be the Green Hornet who is the leader. Maybe that will change if there is a second movie as he will have learned more from Kato by then. I wasn't too crazy to hear that comedian/actor Seth Rogan was hired to be the Hornet but I see that it is necessary. Most people these days want some comedy with their action. I am planning on seeing this when it comes out next year. I have been waiting on a Green Hornet movie for a long time. Also, another good thing is that it will probably mean that the 1960's TV show will be release on DVD and I have been waiting for that for a while too. So with the Green Hornet, Captain America, Thor and Green Lantern movies next year will be a great year for comic book fans.

On sale this day in 1967

Today is Julius Schwartz's birthday. He was a living legend in the comic book and science fiction industry as an editor. Today he would have been 95 if he had lived. This book that we have hear today is special as the creators did it behind his back to surprise him on his 70th birthday. So here is the special 411th issue of Superman.
