Plastic Patriot

If you liked it when DC and Marvel teamed up to become Amalgam Comics then you will love the blog The Amalgam Age of Comics. There Paul combines 1 Marvel and 1 DC character into one hero. Since I am a fan of Plastic Man and Captain America and Paul came up with the cover that you see above.

website problem

I haven't been able to find a fix that would bring all the info on the rightside back to that spot. Currently they, for some reason, are at the bottom. Last time I posted about something like this it was automatically fixed. I would imagine by blogger so I am hoping they can do it again since I don't see how to contact them about it.

Meanwhile Back at the Backups: Josie and the Pussycats #82 with Josie in Contact Sport

I had been a fan of Archie comics for years by the time 1975 came around. But by then I was starting to feel too old for them. So I rarely bought them. In one way this story isn't a back up. After all at that time Archie publications always had short 5 page stories in each of their books. So you could get about 4 stories in each book. 3 if one or 2 of them went a page or 2 longer. But this was the last story in Josie and the Pussycats #82 so it was backing up the other stories.
Now back then a book like Josie and the Pussycats appealed to young girls as well as pre-teen boys. Most of the boys I knew read it just to look at how pretty the girls were. Especially Melody. These boys were just learning to appreacite the opposite sex. This story sticks out as it seems to be sending those boys the wrong message. Josie fights off the advances of Alex who seems to be on the verge of raping poor Josie. Thankfully his sister reminds him he is the host of the party and he answers the door to Melody. Mel is more receptive of his advances, but she never was considered very bright. Josie catches them in the coat room and later laughs the whole thing off. I don't recall rape being funny in 1975 but someone at Archie comics thought it was.

Tales From the Dollar Bin: the Fantastic Four #151

This issue I am posting is here for alot of reasons. One is that I believe that this era of the FF is kind of an unsung era in their history. Rich Buckler had taken over the art chores, Johnny Storm was wearing the colors of the original Human Torch and many other reasons. In this book we get one of the best female characters in Marvel history with Thundra and the most startling image of all is on the first page... Ben Grimm in a suit. Read and enjoy today and tomorrow I will post the second part of the story.
