50 years ago this month in 1961 was a big month for many people. If you are a comics fan it was big because of many classic stories that came out at that time. The biggest was that the first issue of the Fantastic Four was released. Back then books were dated 3 months ahead as the publishers thought this gave their books 2 or 3 additional months that the comics would stay on the newsstands. Thus giving them more time to sell books. So they the books that came out in August of 1961 would have been dated November 1961. Lets take a look at others that came out this month in 1961 with the date of Nov. 1961.

50 years ago, I was 5 years old. It would have been nice if my parents had collected these comics for me. Unfortunately, they were a bit short sited. And so, I don't have any of these issues.
Thanks Mom and Dad!
I too wish my parents thought of that when I was younger. However this month they were worried about me being born. But boy that would have been great if they thought to puy FF#1.
Actually the Marvel books came out three months ahead of the cover date. The DC books were only two months ahead, until the summer of '73 when they synced up with Marvel in this regard.
Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. All of my reading life I always saw the 3 month difference. Still it's amazing to see the changes on just the covers alone that have taken place in 50 years. Frankly I like the covers from 50 years ago more. Lately the characters seem to just stand on the cover and look like models.
I remember buying the Superman and JLA comics that month. A few months later I traded some Archies for FF 1 and a couple of Batmans (Batmen?). Only have reprints of them now as most of my original collection was incinerated by my Dad in response to my failing ART in 6th grade.
