Comics Scene

One of my favorite magazines that is no longer available was Comics Scene. It was published and distributed by the same company that published Starlog and Fangoria. Three times they made the attempt to make it a hit. It first started in 1982 but only ran till 1983. They tried again in 1987 and this was there most successful run. It ran till 1996. It ended after 56 issues. They tried again in 200 but it only lasted 3 issues. In my area I believe that it had poor distribution as I rearly saw it in my area but I loved each issue. Mainly because it was the first time I ever saw a mainstream magazine that was entirely devoted to comic books. It told of the creative process that went on behind the scenes. Also, it gave info about comic books that were being turned into TV shows and movies. In those pre-internet days that information was worth its weight in gold. The ironic thing is that it was distributed only by newstands and they were starting to abandon comic books because of the comic bookstore boom that was happening in the 80's and 90's. With the boom in the internet it was surprising that they tried a third time in 2000. It only lasted 3 issues. Perhaps Comics Scene would do better as a comic book related website now with the internet.
