Tales from the Dollar Bin: Marvel Two-In-One #11

A Golem is a Jewish legend of an animated man created from non-animated objects. The  golem is inscribed with Hebrew words that keep it animated. From Wikipedia I found that the word emet written on a golem's forehead is one such example. The golem could then be deactivated by removing a letter in emet, thus changing the inscription from 'truth' to 'death'. Legend and folklore suggest that golems could be activated by writing a specific series of letters on parchment and placing the paper in a golem's mouth.
Some say that the first man, Adam, was a Golem as he was first a lifeless husk of dust. If a person, even a very holy person, were to create a Golem it would only be a shadow of that person as the Golem was not created by God.
Personally I never considered the Golem a horror character but as I was starting to run out of horror guest stars I started looking them up on the internet. I kept finding the Golem mentioned as a horror character for Marvel so I have included him in this Halloween countdown. This Golem was created for Marvel Comics by Len Wein and John Buscema. It first appeared in Strange Tales in 1974. It only lasted from #174 to 176 and then made appearances in other books. This is one of those guest appearances in Marvel Two-In-One #11 by Roy Thomas, Bill Mantlo and the under appreicated Bob Brown as artist.

See the Golem in these books.
